Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine and Russia during this grave and dangerous time.
The Russian military invasion has brought widespread disruption, but we are encouraged by news of our two peace‑creating groups in Russia and Ukraine. In the first week, assemblies of practitioners of the advanced TM‑Sidhi® program have gathered in both countries, achieving nearly half of our initial goal of 100 volunteers in each group. More will join as soon as it is safe and practical.
I thank everyone whose generous donations to our GoFundMe campaign have made this possible. With over 950 donors from around the world, we have surpassed our goal of $150,000 to sponsor groups of full-time volunteers for two months. An additional $150,000 has been donated by our U.S. and international Transcendental Meditation organizations.
The Ukrainian group is located in the mountains of western Ukraine, far from military conflicts. The National TM® Organization in Ukraine is keeping all participants safe and able to practice the TM-Sidhi program comfortably, thereby awakening the deep silence, bliss, and coherence of the field of Transcendental Consciousness—for themselves and their country.
Now that military conflict has begun, the need for these groups is more urgent than ever. To ensure permanent peace, we ultimately need groups of 700 in Ukraine and 1,200 in Russia. Before the conflict began, I delivered a letter to President Volodymyr Zelensky offering to partner with him to create a larger group. He expressed genuine interest, but with the onset of war, he is now entirely focused on the survival of his country.
It is my sincere hope and expectation that increasing the numbers in our current peace-creating groups as much as we can will help strengthen Ukrainian coherence, defuse the Russian aggression, and build greater momentum for peace.
Again, I offer my heartfelt gratitude for your good wishes and support during this perilous time.
John Hagelin, Ph.D.
National Director, U.S. TM Organization
President, Maharishi International Universit

A Conversation with Dr. Rebecca Goldstein
What Is Reality?
Consciousness and/or Matter?
Dr. Goldstein is an acclaimed novelist and brilliant philosopher. She studied philosophy at Barnard and earned her PhD at Princeton University.
Her career bridges the cultural divides between the humanities, the arts, and the sciences. She has written several books and won a number of awards, including a MacArthur Genius Award and the National Humanities Medal, awarded by former President Barack Obama.
Dr. Goldstein has taught at universities and she lectures all over the world. Her first novel, The Mind-Body Problem, was a great success. Nine more books have followed, with a new book in preparation.
She is an important voice in the current active debates between religion and science.
What is Reality? Consciousness and/or Matter?
In this episode, Dr. Nader sits down with Dr. Rebecca Newberger Goldstein to discuss these questions: What is consciousness and what is reality? What do we know and what do we not know?

“The purpose of Advanced Techniques is to take the experience to another, higher level. Advanced Techniques are like fertilizers; fertilizers bring better fruit to every tree. To enjoy greater achievement and fulfillment in life, take advantage of this beautiful program of Advanced Techniques to enrich the development of higher states of consciousness.” — Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
Q: What are Advanced Techniques?
A: Like the TM technique, Advanced Techniques are easily-practiced mental techniques that accelerate personal growth. During TM, we experience a fourth state of consciousness, a state of restful alertness that dissolves stress, enhances brain functioning, and balances the body and emotions. Advanced Techniques speed up the integration of this state with our regular daily activity, bringing faster results from our TM practice.
Q: How many are there?
A: There are four Advanced Techniques brought to light by Maharishi in his Vedic Science and Technology, the Science and Technology of Consciousness. The first is practiced for a few minutes before going to sleep. The second, third, and fourth Advanced Techniques are effortlessly incorporated into your twice-daily TM practice.
Q: Do I learn them all at once or one at a time?
A: One at a time and in sequence. You’ll practice an Advanced Technique at least two to four months before adding the next one.
Q: Who teaches the Advanced Techniques?
A: Specially trained, highly experienced certified TM teacher Mario Orsatti has been teaching the TM technique since 1973 and the Advanced Technique courses for the last 4 years. He is the Executive Director of the Center for Health and Wellness at the David Lynch Foundation, where he oversees TM programs for government and military leaders in Washington, D.C., and for business executives in New York City. He will be present at each session for instruction and verification.
Q: Who can learn, and how do I know if I’m ready?
A: You must have practiced TM regularly, twice a day, for a minimum of the last two months to be eligible to apply for an Advanced Technique. Each technique is simple—easy to learn, easy to practice—and, best of all, enjoyable! That said, if you’d like our advice regarding your personal readiness, just give us a call.
Q: What is the course structure?
A: The course consists of three sessions:
-
First, an orientation meeting (1½ hours)
-
Second, personal instruction in the appropriate Advanced Technique (2–3 hours)
-
Third, a checking meeting the following day to answer questions and verify the correctness of your practice (2 hours)
Orientation: An orientation meeting is an opportunity to learn more about Advanced Techniques. It is free, and there is no obligation to take the course. But if you want to learn an Advanced Technique at this time, you must attend the orientation meeting and then fill out an application form. If the orientation meeting time does not work for you, let us know, and we will find another time to meet with you. Contact by email at wdevasier@tm.org or call 641-919-8188 or 641-919-1300.
Orientation: Friday, April 1st at 2:00 PM
Personal Instruction: Saturday, April 2nd
Checking Meeting: Sunday April 3rd at 9:30am & 11am

Welcome to the “Genius Lounge,” a new audio series with Bob Roth, CEO of the David Lynch Foundation, author of the NY Times bestseller, “Strength in Stillness,” and 50-year teacher of Transcendental Meditation®.
Why do we call it Genius Lounge?
This audio series focuses on the genius of nature, from microscopic to macroscopic, including the genius of the human brain and body. The name was inspired by brain researchers who have identified key networks within the brain that underlie and foster the creative process. One such network is the “Default Mode Network,” which has also been called the “Imagination Network” and the “Genius Lounge.” Innovation gets its start here—and the practice of Transcendental Meditation accelerates the process by strengthening the creative networks within the brain and by removing the restrictive impact of stress.
In each episode, Bob shares a few minutes of exciting research findings on the brain, ancient and modern insights into consciousness, and/or inspiration to live a healthier, happier life.

In this exquisite lecture from 1975 in Fairfield, Iowa, Maharishi brings out the ultimate understanding and purpose of music. Maharishi explains:
'The purpose of music is to create or to generate those very delicate impulses of bliss we call "emotions". And let that most delicate value of life be a direct experience. And with this, let every aspect of life be nurtured. Music or the upsurge of fine emotions serves to life as fertilizer, serves to freshen all the leaves and branches and tree — the whole thing. So very delicate impulses rising in the heart is the beginning of the melody of life. And that’s what music is.'
This eBook with audio along with the text from this lecture includes some very beautiful pictures of Maharishi. We highly recommend viewing it on a computer with Google Chrome as this gives a very full and enjoyable experience. Please turn the pages slowly and wait for the audio bar to begin playing on the selected pages with audio. The first audio bar appears on page 4 after the title pages.

Maharishi on NBC's Speaking Freely with Edwin Newman | 49:50
A 1973 interview with the Founder of the TM technique
|
|
|
|
|
|
This archival interview from 1973 with TM Founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was broadcast on NBC’s Speaking Freely, with celebrated newscaster, journalist, and author Edwin Newman. By the time of this interview, Maharishi had been teaching the Transcendental Meditation program worldwide since 1959, completing 13 world tours, visiting 50 countries, with hundreds of thousands learning the TM technique.
Excerpts from this seminal interview cover a range of topics, including
- Maharishi’s background
- how the TM technique differs from other meditations
- whether the technique is a passing fad
- what transcending is
- what Cosmic Consciousness is
- and whether people experience this state of consciousness other than through TM practice.
Newman is known for his 23-year career in television news. He was the long-time anchor of the popular Today show and appeared regularly on NBC’s award-winning program, Meet the Press. He also conducted more than 250 hour-long interviews on Speaking Freely with leading figures of the day, between 1967 and 1976.
By 1973, Maharishi was world-renowned. His book the Science of Being and Art of Living was published in 1964, translated into 15 languages, and sold millions of copies. In 1967 Penguin published his Bhagavad-Gita: A New Translation and Commentary. Many scholars regard his interpretation of chapters 1–6 of the Indian text as one of the most influential in shaping spiritual thought and life.
In 1968 Maharishi began training thousands of teachers of the TM technique in order to make the program more widely available. He would train more than 40,000 TM teachers, who went on to establish TM Centers around the world and teach the technique to more than 10 million people.
From 1970 to 1973, some 10,000 people attended Maharishi’s symposia on the Science of Creative Intelligence, his modern interpretation of Vedic knowledge. During these university conferences, Maharishi spoke with the leading thinkers of the time, such as Hans Selye, Marshall McLuhan, and Jonas Salk.

Are we merely floating through space on a rock in which powerful forces dominate us and leave us powerless to pursue our destiny? Do our thoughts matter? Do our actions matter? Do our words matter? Do our intentions matter? Are we just a number? Do we have any responsibility for the events that happen all around us? Do we affect people around us and the decisions they make? Do we affect the decisions of people in our proximity with whom we've never had any interaction at all, people we've never met?
Have you ever heard of The Maharishi Effect? The Maharishi Effect was first observed scientifically in the early 1970s. Since then, hundreds of scientific studies have been conducted in over 200 universities in more than 30 countries worldwide. The results from dozens of these studies are published in many peer-reviewed scientific journals.
The Maharishi Effect got its name from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who developed a popularized form of meditation called Transcendental Meditation known today as TM. TM has been described as religious by some and non-religious by others. The Maharishi became famous in the west for hanging out with The Beatles and other celebrities.

In 1968, The Beatles, the biggest band in the material world, went searching for lesser-known alternatives in the spiritual one. Directed by Ajoy Bose and co-directed by Pete Compton, The Beatles and India is more than just a travelog of the band’s famous trip to Rishikesh, India to study transcendental meditation under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The documentary shows how Indian music helped refine the group’s sound and how the country embraced the band as cultural ambassadors with deep roots which continue to this day.

The Liverpool boys traveled to Rishikesh in northern India in the late 1960s and, like everything else they did at the time, the visit garnered a lot of media attention. The main objective was to participate in a Transcendental Meditation ritual at the ashram (the word for a Hindu hermitage) of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Some say that this period in the country was the most creatively productive in the Beatles' trajectory — so much so that they composed 50 songs during their stay.
