RETREATS & ADVANCED PROGRAMS

Quiet the noise and reconnect to the Self.

Enjoy expanded awareness and deep rest as a foundation for a fulfilling academic block!

All on-campus students are now warmly invited to join the half-day online TM Retreats offered by our Distance Education department. The TM Retreat program offers extra Transcendental Meditation practice balanced by yoga asanas and pranayama, a discussion of your experiences, and a TM Tune-Up. Students report profound rest, rejuvenation, and personal transformation as a result of these TM Retreats, which are now available in every block.

Please note: If you have young children, you will need to arrange for child care.

Also note: If you are a full Sidha, we will regrettably not be able to accommodate you with a half-day TM Retreat.

Upcoming Retreats

Sunday, June 1st 9:00 a.m. – 12:40 p.m. – Registration deadline: May 29th
Wednesday, June 4th 9:00 a.m. – 12:40 p.m. – Registration deadline: June 1st

Retreat Registration Details

There are 2 opportunities in each academic block to take an online TM Retreat, if your class schedule permits. Space is limited for each Retreat.

Sign up early to get the date you want and please arrange your life so you can comfortably attend the Retreat on that date. If you find you cannot attend, either because your plans change or because the Retreat is full, then enroll in a later Retreat if space is still available.

  • Adjust for your time zone before selecting a Retreat (the schedule is listed in Iowa Central Time).
  • Apply for a Retreat by clicking the registration link for your preferred date above.
  • You must enter your miu.edu email address provided by the university when you register.
  • Check your MIU email for a link to your Retreat—it will be sent to you 48 hours in advance of the live event.
  1. The link will only be sent to your MIU email address; it will not be sent to you in your Canvas Inbox.
  2. If you do not know how to access your MIU email, refer to the following link(s) for instructions.

Please also note that you must wait at least two weeks after completing an online Retreat before you take another one, so you’ll be able to only join one Retreat per block in the options given above.

Online Retreats will be offered to all students throughout the academic year.

Once you have signed up for an Online Retreat, please read the Retreat Guidelines below.

TM Half-Day Retreat Guidelines

We are very pleased that you have signed up to take a half-day online TM Retreat during this block—an opportunity to dive deep into the Self and gain rest and rejuvenation for body and mind! The Retreat program includes extra Transcendental Meditation practice balanced by yoga asanas and pranayama, a discussion of your experiences, a video of Maharishi, and a TM checking.

Here are some additional points to help maximize your experience. Please read these over carefully!

  1. Please remain with the retreat until the conclusion of the TM group check or Maharishi video, whichever is the final activity of the retreat.
  2. Please be sure to log into Zoom with your first and last name. The retreat Zoom meeting will open at 8:45 a.m. and will close at 9:10 a.m. Orientation will then begin, and the meeting will be locked so that we can all start together without interruption. So please allow enough time to connect to the Zoom meeting prior to 9:10 a.m. If you get locked out after joining the retreat, please text your course leader to be allowed back in.
  3. Please click this link, Maharishi Yoga Asanas, for a demo video of the poses. During the retreat, we will not show the video, but we will screen share a PDF of the poses that you can follow.
  4. Please maintain privacy by sequestering yourself from other people during the retreat. If you have young children, please arrange for childcare.
  5. Please ensure that you’ll be able to enjoy a leisurely afternoon and evening after your extended morning TM practice on the day of the retreat.
  6. The retreat will be your morning program, so do not meditate beforehand.
  7. The best preparation for your retreat is to be as rested as you can. Try to go to bed early the night before.
  8. Have a very light breakfast, but enough so that you do not feel overly hungry during your extended meditation practice. You will have a short break between your two morning rounds.
  9. When you register for your chosen retreat, you may click on the notification box to receive a copy of your responses. About 48 hours before the retreat begins, we will send to your miu.edu email address the name and contact information for your retreat leader and the Zoom link for the event. Please check your miu.edu email for this important information.
  10. We’re looking forward to seeing you on your TM Retreat!
