About us

Maharishi International University offers a supportive, friendly atmosphere in which faculty, students, staff, and administrators can pursue their academic and personal goals. We follow carefully designed routines that promote rapid growth in every area of life, including the twice-daily group practice of the Transcendental Meditation program.

Campus dining halls serve a rich and wholesome organic vegetarian-and-dairy menu three meals each day. In addition to delicious entrees and fresh vegetables and fruits, an organic salad bar, homemade breads and desserts, ice cream, milk, juices, sandwich counter, and hot soups complement the menu.

MIU is located in Fairfield, a small city in southeast Iowa. Despite the rural setting, Fairfield is a vibrant community and offers many of the advantages of big city life without noise, traffic, and pollution. Fairfield contains 40 restaurants, from fast food to fine food, including a wide variety of international cuisine. The Steven Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts in the heart of the city has weekly performances on stage, including concerts, dance, plays, and comedy (see www.fairfieldacc.com). A monthly street festival called the Fairfield Art Walk is known throughout the region and draws large crowds to the town square.

For more information about Fairfield, please visit the City of Fairfield Iowa website. This site has useful information, including a map of Fairfield. The Fairfield library also has useful links.

We are dedicated to providing an optimal working and living experience for our faculty and staff by safeguarding a safe and secure environment. MIU has several approaches for creating a secure and safe campus which are explained in more details in the Annual Security and Fire Report. A hard copy of the Annual Security Report is available at the Enrollment Center or you can request that a copy be mailed to you by calling (641) 472-1144.
